2008 Show Report

On April 5-6, 2008, the Greater St. Louis Daffodil Society’s annual daffodil show, “A Sea of Daffodils” was held at Shaw Nature Reserve in Grey Summit, MO. The horticulture display was held in the Carriage House and the Design portion of the show was held in the Bascom House.

The Design portion of the show had 10 adult and 2 youth exhibitors. Best Design of the show was “Scuba Diving”, an underwater display won by Jean Morris.

The Best Youth Design was won by Christopher Raymond for his “Pirates of the Caribbean” and his sister Grace Raymond won a blue ribbon for her “Sally Sells Sea Shells By the Seashore”.

Debra Pratt, a first time entrant, won a blue ribbon for her “Sitting By the Dock of the Bay”. Suzanne Raymond took a blue ribbon for “Beach Blanket Bingo” and Jim Morris won the miniature design blue ribbon for “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”.

The Horticulture portion of the show had 20 participants with 302 exhibits that contained 518 blooms. Although the room was smaller than the usual space at the Missouri Botanical Garden, the early season allowed plenty of staging area for the flowers as well as a fine display of the ADS banners that the club recently purchased. There was no photographic display at this year’s show.
