Mary Lou Gripshover

In Search of Species Daffodils in Spain & Portugal

Ms. Gripshover told of her recent travels abroad, in the company other daffodil enthusiasts, to Spain and Portugal in search of species daffodils. We saw the various rare specimens and locales where they are found. Many were growing in mountainous, remote and difficult terrain not accessible by roads. Her group would travel by road as far as possible, and then on foot for often great distances to be ultimately rewarded by the tiniest specimens tucked among the rocks. They were allowed to collect seeds and bulbs of the specimens as well as photographing them in their native habitat. Mary Lou has taken nine trips abroad in the quest for "wild" daffodils and is always looking forward to the next time.

Thanks Mary Lou...we really enjoyed your presentation. Your knowledge and experience with daffodils is greatly appreciated.
