Grooming Daffodils for Show
Donna Dietschs’ presentation was very educational and truly incredible. Her knowledge and ability to share her extraordinary life experiences with daffodils was greatly appreciated. I’m sure that everyone at the meeting, even our seasoned daffodil show veterans, learned some new tricks for preparing daffodils for show. I believe our daffodil show judges will be looking a little closer at the daffodils they are judging this year. We are very pleased that Donna was able to make some time in her schedule to visit St Louis and share some of her extensive wisdom. We are looking foward to using some of her techniques at the 2010 "The Greatest Daffodil Show on Earth" Show. Biography for Donna Dietsch,
February 2010 Speaker
During 1976 Donna Dietsch joined the Central Ohio Daffodil Society. Her favorite daffodil division is 3 because she won her first blue ribbon at her local spring show. Donna has since won numerous local and national awards too numerous to mention.
In 1985 Donna joined the American Daffodil Society and started attending regional meetings which led her to become interested in hybridizing. Donna has already introduced five of her cultivars. To date she has 400+ named cultivars she maintains for hybridizing and plants all her daffodils in pots. She will be sharing her methods with us during our February meeting.
Donna has lent her expertise to several of our local members during their early experiences with staging daffodils. This assistance has lead to blue ribbon success for each of those members.
Daffodils are not the only flower that Donna designs with. She has studied Ikenoba flower design for five years. This has led to assisting with decorating the Ohio Governor’s Mansion with Christmas décor for the past two years.
